Q&A: Dr. Prashant P. Shetty, Author of 'Lockdown Health'

Dr. Prashant P. Shetty has done BDS and MDS, and has completed his PhD in Dental Sciences. He is currently working as a Professor at Pacific Dental College, Debari, Udaipur, Rajasthan. He has recently come out with the book Lockdown Health, which offers a holistic, long-term approach for making consistent choices and reaching the ultimate goal – a long, happy and healthy life. Guided by science, the book is on health and various treatment options relating to yoga, meditation and abdominal workout, which are practised by today’s youth.

I chat with Dr. Prashant about his book Lockdown Health, the research process involved in writing the book, book recommendations, and much more.

Hello, Dr. Prashant! Tell us a bit about yourself!

My areas of interest are playing chess, reading, writing articles, and listening to Hindi and Kannada songs. I am also fascinated by the vibrant culture of India. The quest to discover the unknown also drew me to yoga, meditation and weight loss tips, and hence I came out with this book.

If you could only describe your book Lockdown Health in one sentence, what would it be?

The book basically tells about how to live a better life in this modern world.

Now tell us a little more about the book! What can readers expect?

In this modern society and busy schedules, one should incorporate Yoga, Meditation, and daily workout in their lifestyles. In the book Lockdown Health, I have given a brief idea about how to do all these things in one’s life. The book also deals with obesity and its various treatment options, which includes yoga, meditation, abdominal workout, and also the myths of the weight loss industry. The book has been designed to provide easy access to relevant information with relevant tips, and an attempt has been made to provide sources which are free to access.

What was the moment when the idea of the book first came to be? What made you pursue it?

The idea for the book came during the lockdown, when I was attending an online workshop by Som Bathla. This book comes up from my research and experiences during the Covid-induced lockdown in 2020.

What was your research process like for the purpose of writing this book?

For the book’s research, I visited online websites, and also various articles and books on Ayurveda and Yoga.

What is the message that you want readers to take away from this book?

Health is very important and everyone should be careful and I recommend this Lockdown Health as it has a great content.

As a reader, which authors and books have influenced you?

These are Chetan Bhagat’s The 3 Mistakes of My Life and Robin Sharma’s The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari.

How have you been coping with the current pandemic and what will be the new normal for you post it?

Earlier, it was very harsh for me, due to the lockdown, but with time things have been smooth and have improved.
